Mad Men Recap Roundup: The Other Other Other Woman
My quick thoughts:
In the final Peggy-Don scene, I’m surprised no one mentioned the call-back of sorts to the Season 3 finale “Shut the door. Have a seat.” In that episode, Don woos Peggy to the start-up agency by telling her if she passes on his offer, he’ll spend the rest of his life trying to hire her. Now that she’s gone, we may be in for a season 6 in which we get to see if he really means that. Bonus: that would keep Peggy on the show. No one wants her to become a stranger.
As for Joan: from a strictly business perspective, once she agreed to go along with the plan, SCDP could have taken a lesson from Harry’s encounter with Lakshmi the week before: Lakshmi put out before securing what she wanted; could SCDP have dangled Joan as a reward for Jaguar awarding them the account? Perhaps they could have told Herb, “she’ll only do this if we win.” Of course, don’t let Don hear them say it.
With all the crazy Peggy and Joan developments this week, I feel like Megan’s C-plot has been overlooked a bit. I found it the most fascinating, and it’s stayed with me the most since. Where does she get her confidence? And where does Don get his?
1. Megan goes for a quickie with Don in order to feel confident at the audition. She gets a call back.
